Family. Faith. Freedom.

We are the Schmidts.

A big and growing family.

Just like Eastern Washington

We work together. And our individual achievements strengthen all of us.

We celebrate our successes and have each other’s back when we struggle. We give each other a hand up, support each other with ferocity, and disagree with respect.

If you live in Eastern Washington, particularly in the 4th District, you likely know Michael Schmidt or someone in our family. We are your friends, neighbors, co-workers, classmates, teammates and fellow church-goers.

Michael is our Dad, Grandpa (Papa), Husband, Son, Brother and Friend. We count on him to get it right and tell him when he gets it wrong. We hope you will join us in the same.

He has always led our family with common sense, conviction and cowboy know-how. Michael works for our family and we know he will work for you.

Stay Ranch Tough!

Annabelle Schmidt
Granddaughter & 6th generation rancher

Micheal Schmidt was born in Eastern Washington to cattle-buyer, Art, and oncology nurse Maureen Schmidt. The oldest of five siblings, Michael was raised as a 4th generation cattleman following in the boot-steps of his father, grandfather and great grandfather. While his first love was cattle, horses and hunting and fishing in the Great Northwest, his true love is his wife Carol Ann.

Michael and Carol Ann met at nine years old at a youth track meet in North Spokane (tying in the long-jump). They fell in love in high school (him at Gonzaga Prep and her at Mead).

They were married in 1982, while in college. Michael attended Washington State University and Carol Ann the University of Washington before she moved to Pullman, WA where they would welcome three sons; Jeremy (legal field), Josh (in the medical field and active cattle rancher) and Nick (in the tech field).

Michael and Carol Ann are blessed with five grandchildren from 19 years old to six-months. They are Michael’s top priority, and we appreciate to be with them often, watching and helping them grow.

Having lived and worked all over Eastern Washington, primarily on the northern AS Chanel Ranch, the young Schmidt family bought their own permanent home in 1999, Schmidt Cattle Co., a property located in Mead, WA just below Green Bluff towards the base of Mt. Spokane.

Their ranch is home to three generations of family and up to 30 horses, 100’s of cattle, and two labradors. Schmidt Cattle Co. also serves as a popular event venue - where Michael and Carol Ann, with the imagination and skill of daughter-in-law Randi Ray Schmidt, help friends and neighbors celebrate the growing of their own families.

Schmidt Cattle Co. Is the perfect home base for Michael, giving him and his family access to everything good about Eastern Washington: snowy mountain slopes, clean waters (among his many outdoor adventures, Michael is an avid snow and water skier, one time doing both in the same early spring day), fertile land and a community you can trust in.

Michael’s goal is to protect this community and our unique natural places for his family and all the families of Eastern Washington.
